Guatemala- Medical Internship - Local Clinics

Tuition: $4,795

Duration: 7 weeks  (1 week orientation, 6 weeks internship)

Location:  Quetzaltenango, Guatemala

Join a group of other interns dedicated to making a difference in Guatemala.  After a week of intensive orientation, you will work full-time at your internship for the next six weeks.

Interns live together in a house in the beautiful mountain town of Quetzaltenango, known locally as Xela.  You can walk or take the local bus to work; you'll quickly get into the local rythm.  Xela is a town rich in Mayan culture and is home to the Quiche people, descendents of the Maya.

The medical internship will be performed at the main branch of local charitable organization located outside of Quetzaltenango. There is a need for an interns to to help out in the medical clinic at this location and at other clinics as necessary around Quetzaltenango.  There is also a need to create an inventory system for medicine donated by the embassy.

The medical internship is applicable to students of medicine or pre-med.

Medical experience is preferred but not required.

Intermediate knowledge of Spanish is preferred

You, our staff and the other interns live together in Xela. Our home-base is safe and secure living arrangement where you’ll share a room with just one other person and have a bathroom and hot shower. In the mornings you can take the bus or walk to work.

Unlike most of our other programs, lunch is also included in the meal plan Monday through Friday because it is custom for workers in Xela to return home for lunch. Saturday or Sunday will not include meals so as to allow you to explore local restaurants or travel on the weekends.
