Tanzania: Primary & Nursery Education

Duration: 7 weeks  (1 week orientation, 6 weeks internship)

Price: $5,395

Location: Arusha, Tanzania

You’ll be based just outside the beautiful city of Arusha, in northern Tanzania. Arusha is on the southern slopes of towering Mount Meru, its elevation of 4,500 feet keeps temperatures cool and humidity low.

Our staff will pick you up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to our home-base. The first week will include an in-depth orientation covering local business etiquette, health and safety, cultural norms, and even a crash course in Swahili to make you proficient in the basic greetings. After a week of intensive orientation, you will work full-time at your internship for the next six weeks.

Arusha is also the jumping off point for most wildlife safaris and is only a couple of hours away from Mount Kilimanjaro.  There's no shortage of amazing places to visit on the weekends.

Work at a school that provides nursery, primary and secondary education to 150 students. Founded in 2005, it is a privately run school with 20 employees, 12 of which are teachers. The students are a mixture of day students and boarding students. The school is very excited to be graduating their first group of 20, 7th and 8th graders this year who are currently preparing their final exams.

Teachers in Math, Science and English

Preference will be given to those applicants with teaching skills and experience teaching children between the ages of 3-14 years old.

All classes are taught in English

You, our staff and the other interns live together in a house just outside of Arusha, at the edge of a traditional village. Our home-base is a secure compound with an eating area, a small yard and a living room. You’ll share a room with just one other person and have a private bathroom and shower. In the mornings you can take the local "dala-dala" minibus into town to go to work.

Breakfast will be served Monday through Friday, but lunches are on your own. Most interns will eat at their workplace or will sometimes be invited to eat out with their co-workers. Dinner is served from Monday to Thursday, but not on Friday, Saturday or Sunday; this allows you to explore local restaurants or travel on the weekends.
