A former British colony, India is a multi-faceted country with immense diversity. It is one of the world’s fastest growing economies and has in many ways benefited greatly from globalization. India is mostly known to the western world as a rising economic power and provider of ever more sophisticated services. However with globalization, India now faces growing economic inequality within it’s own borders, is more susceptible to volatile financial markets and it’s growing urban centers suffer from deterioration to the environment. These new challenges coupled with it’s more traditional challenges of poverty, illiteracy, disease, and malnutrition, provide the backdrop to our internship program with organizations dealing with these social and economic issues.
