Safety

Terra Intern Abroad is dedicated to providing the safest internships possible to ensure all of our interns can get the most out of their work experience. All of our internships are provided through our in-country partners and supported by our dedicated local staff members. Our partners and staff undergo a through training on Terra Intern Abroad emergency policies and procedures. We are committed to the safety of our interns.  Our entire internship support system is designed around intern health, safety and comfort.

Communication

Transparent communication is part of the Terra Intern Abroad internship mission. This means we do our utmost to facilitate all necessary communication between interns, parents, program directors, internship sites and coordinators, our in-country staff, and our headquarters in the US. All of our interns are provided a local pre-paid cell phone upon arrival to their destination country. Internet is typically accessible via local internet providers, our partner organizations or in the group lodging when available.

Group Lodging

Terra Intern Abroad uses group lodging not only to facilitate interaction between interns, but also to house a Program Director who is dedicated exclusively to the needs of our interns 24/7. Professional assistance and useful advice is always just a few doors away.

Healthy Meals and Bottled Water

At the intern group lodging, we provide meals that are safe and healthy to eat, and reflects the local cuisine. In addition, we provide unlimited safe drinking water.  Dietary restrictions or other food related health concerns can be  accomodated and we are happy to discuss them on a case by case basis.

Local Knowledge

Our staff members have expert knowledge of the site. In fact, even before any interns arrive, our staff has established relationships with the best medical professionals available in the area and the local host organizations where our interns work. As we select our partners in the community, safety is always on our mind. Our staff has also determined on-site security measures based on the cultural norms of the country.

Intern Support

Coordinating work for international interns who may not be fluent in the local language or familiar with local customs takes a lot of effort. Many organizations refuse to work with international interns because they simply don't have the resources to support them. This is where Terra Intern Abroad steps in to make internship opportunities a reality.

The local organizations we work with trust that we’ll be there helping our interns to be effective at their placements. Our staff ensures that our interns are supporting the community's goals, and creating a positive, productive environment for the organization and people they serve.

Travel Medical Insurance

All interns are covered with comprehensive travel medical insurance, emergency evacuation assistance and repatriation that is included in the program fee.
